If Today

Happy national Poem in your Pocket day!

I have submissions from Luna and Dreamstar that will be posted in a few days but for now I would like to share this little poem that I have written:

if today

if today i decided
that today was the day,
the day that i put down my trumpet,
and turned my back on the music,
then today is the day i die.

if today i was to proclaim
'this is not my life'
and music no longer made my heart sing ,
or set my soul alight with fire,
then today is the day i die.

if today i shunned,
all that once meant so much to me,
and burned the sheet music to ashes,
snapped my baton without shedding a single tear,
then today is the day that i die.

if today i changed my path,
from the one that you set me on,
and everything you ever did for me,
meant nothing today,
then today is the day i die.

if one day my passion wilted,
if i wished to forget and start anew,
i'd drive myself completely mad,
for the day the power of music in me is dead,
that will be the day i die.

Guest Writers!

Hello peoples. This blog is D-E-A-D. *whacks head on keyboard* So, I'm going to change some stuff, 'cause (as most of you writer people know) you can just always write when you want to. You need that little spark of imagination to light the fire. Also my blog partner here hasn't been very active lately, and neither have all my lovely followers. Sigh. SO. If any of you are reading this (Hopefully you've come of your own accord, or I've dragged you kicking and screaming off of Treble Clef and over here) this is what's new:

Anecdote is becoming a kind of Writer's Gallery

This is how you become part of this. First- you MUST be a follower. I will not accept submissions from non-followers just for safety and stuff.

Second- Do you have some poems and short stories you want to share for the first time because they might look out of place on your regular blog, or that you've shared before, but want them posted on this 'writer's gallery'? This is what you do...Simply make sure that the poem/story is exactly the way you want it published, write a short description of WHY you wrote it (2-3 sentences is fine but detail is ok too) and send it off to me via email. (trebleclefblog@gmail.com for those of you who don't know) I will look it over quickly just to make sure there is nothing that I deem un-postable content, and then I'll publish it. In the future, if you've got a lot to share here, I may make you an author of this blog, but for now I want to see how this works. Here's what a sample post might look like by a guest author-- in this case Fred with his poem 'Flowers' (yes I made it all up and yes it's extremely lame. I would expect much more from any of you, but as I said, it's just an example)

Today I'd like welcome Fred, and his poem 'Flowers' to Anecdote! Take it away, Fred!
~Cornet Crazie

I was inspired to write this poem while walking around the town viewing all the flowers.

Flowers
by Fred

Walkin' round the town
Flowers, they are everywhere.
In gardens and windows,
Even pushing up through sidewalk cracks!
Pretty flowers,
Stinky flowers,
Colorful and dull,
Purposeful and weeds,
Flowers they are everywhere.

(C) Fred

Then, your post will be linked to on the sidebar as well as all of the others that are up there already. Also please note the copyright. Your work will not be changed in any way, and will be posted under YOUR name, not mine. So please! Send them in!

spring

spring

in the dark of the earth
after winter loses its cruel grip
the tiny seed begins to stir
slowly growing,
slowly pushing,
slowly extending its stem,
so it can reach the world above.

and after the frost has melted,
a tiny green shoot,
springs up through the soil.
stretching high with the warm sun,
unfurling delicate leaves,
opening a stunning flower,
new life has been awakened.
